What is BII
Breast implant illness, or BII, refers to a pattern of symptoms experienced by women with breast implants. Since 2018, more than 50,000 women have reported a range of BII symptoms, the most common including fatigue, brain fog, joint pain and other flu-like symptoms. Although it is not a medical diagnosis and rejected by many plastic surgeons, women experiencing symptoms commonly associated with BII note dramatic improvement in their symptoms and overall health after undergoing the breast explant surgery.
Did you know that more than 400,000 women undergo breast implant surgery each year? The popularity of this surgery has seen a dramatic increase over the last 20 years, with about 75 percent of these surgeries being for breast augmentation and 25 percent for reconstruction after a mastectomy. However, this increase does reflect women who are replacing old implants, which occurs every 10-15 years due to implants breaking or causing other problems.
